Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna (PMAY)
Housing is one of the basic requirements for human survival. For a normal citizen owning a house provides significant economic and social security and status in society. For a shelter less person, a house brings about a profound social change in his existence, endowing him with an identity, thus integrating him with his immediate social milieu. In pursuance to the goal - Housing for all by 2022, the rural housing scheme Indira Awas Yojana has been revamped to Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin and approved during March 2016. Under the scheme, financial assistance is provided for construction of pucca house to all houseless and households living in dilapidated houses. The scheme is being implemented in rural areas throughout India. The main objective of PMAY is to provide pucca house to all who are houseless and living in dilapidated houses in rural areas by March, 2024.
Identification of beneficiaries eligible for assistance and their prioritisation has been done using information from Socio Economic and Caste Census (SECC) ensuring total transparency and objectivity. The list were presented to Gram Sabha to identify beneficiaries who have been assisted before or who have become ineligible due to other reasons. Annual list of beneficiaries has been identified from the total list through participatory process by the Gram Sabha. Currently all the eligible beneficiaries as identified under SECC have been benefitted, now the focus is on the left out beneficiaries and in Kashmir Division there are almost Seventy Thousand households who need to be assisted under PMAY. During 2022-23 a target of 13297 has been allocated to Kashmir Division for construction of new Houses for houseless beneficiaries.
